Muslim model, Halima Aden, is sending shock waves across the world. In only one year the beautiful model has begun to not only make a name for herself but is bringing diversity to the fashion world, as well as representing her religion. Aden is not just representing muslim women in fashion, but also representing women and girls who wear the hijab everyday of their lives. Halima was first featured on the cover of Carine Roitfeld’s CR Fashion Book Spring 2017. As well as, the cover of Vogue Arabia in June. Not to mention the model has walked in countless runway shows such as Yeezuz, Max Mara, and Alberta Ferretti. And now, she will grace Allure’s July cover wearing the hijab. The title? “American Beauty.”

This cover is coming at a time of hate in America. Muslims, are frequently stereotyped and put under fire. Recently, a teenage girl wearing a hijab, Nabra Hassasenen, 17, was murdered in Virginia. The crime happened during Ramadan. Muslims are also being attacked outside of the United States. In London, a man rammed his van into a group of people leaving a Mosque after Ramadan prayer. There have been countless devastating incidents like the ones mentions, which is why Halima Aden’s Allure cover is important. Having a woman wearing a hijab and showing it as representation of beauty in the United States, celebrates diversity and acceptance in not just beauty but also America.
During her interview with her Magazine Halima talks about her religion and the hijab.
“It’s how I interpret my religion… but there are women who are Muslim who choose not to wear the hijab. That’s something people often forget.”
Adem’s cover and editorial was shot by Sølve Sundsbø. The shoot was also styled by Beat Bolliger, who dressed the model in a mixture of street and activewear. Halima also wears an array of hoodies, including Nike’s new pro-hijab.

"We are a very diverse group of women, and we're all Muslim. Some of us are wearing hijab, some of us wearing the turban. Ultimately it comes down to choice."
