Ever wonder why It’s rare to come across a Korean woman without flawless, glowing skin? It’s because Korean’s take extra care of their skin through the use of BB creams, sheet masks, essences and toners. There is a science behind the routine, which consists of a 10 step process.

Korean’s use a “double cleanse” method, where they wash their face twice with a cleanser. The purpose of this is to remove dirt and grime that sit on top of the skin,  followed by a second cleanser to get a deeper clean. An oil cleanser is preferred to start with followed by a water-based cleanser.

Step 3:

Exfoliating is an important element in the K-beauty regimen, which assists in the removal of dead skin and allows the following products to be absorbed more easily. However, scrubbing your face every night isn’t recommended. Charlotte Cho, co-founder of Soko Glam, an online marketplace that specializes in Korean beauty products says, “Its better to focus your efforts on areas that really need it, like visible pores on your cheeks,on  blackheads, or your nose.”

An essence follows, which is considered as the holy grail of the k-beauty routine. It adds moisture and repairs the skin after its been stripped from essential nutrients, creating a firm and brighter complexion.

Step 6:

Ampoule, which is similar to a watered-down serum,  is then used to address any dullness or loss of collagen. A little goes a long way.

Step 7:

This is where the infamous sheet masks come in. Used to boost circulation and enhance the appearance of your pores, each sheet mask targets a different area. You can choose from a wide array of masks that aim at different sections of the face such as laugh lines, under eyes and even lips!

Step 8:

Hydrating eye cream is meant to prevent fine lines, puffiness and dark circles that can form as we age. The trick is to tap the under eye area with the cream, besides tugging or rubbing. “This ensures that the thin, delicate area stays super-moisturized so it wont dry out and create even more fine lines,” says Cho.

Step 9:

Add a facial moisturizer to create a plump effect for your skin and to smooth away fine lines.

Step 10:

To finish off the 10 step beauty method, add sunscreen to prevent any sun damage and to keep your complexion safe from any UV harm.
