Julia Roberts is confirmed as the newest member of the star studded cast of Smurfs: The Lost Village! Though the role might be a surprising pick for the Oscar winner, Roberts has a special sentimental attachment to the cartoon classic. The actress told people magazine,
“Smurfs are such a fun part of our animated culture. They were popular when I was a child and they were popular when my kids were little. It’s fun to be part of such a sweet group that continues to entertain young people.”
Roberts will be voicing the character SmurfWillow, alongside Demi Lovato as Smurfette, Mandy Patinkin as Papa Smurf, and Rainn Wilson as the evil wizard Gargamel. The Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation film is Roberts’ first animated film since her 2006 roles in The Ant Bully and Charlotte’s Web.
