The title of the next “Star Wars” franchise was revealed on Monday.
“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is written and directed by Rian Johnson and the release date for the movie is December 15, 2017. The movie is still in post-production as we can see on this behind-the-scenes photo Johnson shared in the editing bay.
Disney released a short teaser video announcing production on Episode VIII last February, showing the island where Luke and Rey reunite, with brief snippets of Mr. Hamill and Ms. Ridley on set.
Episode VIII’s title was just revealed on Monday, January 23, and Mark Hamill (who plays Luke Skywalker) shared his approval. The still untitled Episode IX, directed by “Jurassic World” helmer Colin Trevorrow, is scheduled for release in 2019.
Twitter users are more than excited about the movie release, even if they have to wait months for it:
