Tom Hardy adds fuel to the wildfire of rumors surrounding James Bond. In an interview with the Daily Beast, Hardy subtly and not-so-subtly talked about wanting the James Bond role. When asked if he would like to play Bond, Hardy said, “You know, there’s a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting, and in the fellowship of my peer group, that if you talk about it you’re automatically out of the race.” So by not talking about it, he’s talking about it. I guess that works? Who knew Hardy was superstitious!
Not only that, the interviewer expressed how cool it would be if Christopher Nolan, director of The Dark Knight and Inception, directed the next few Bond films. Hardy, echoing the entire world, agreed that Nolan directing would indeed be really, really, really cool. Is this perhaps another hint from Hardy?
The only thing for sure is that Daniel Craig doesn’t want to play Bond. Not surprising considering how Craig has been Bond for a decade now and the troubled production of Spectre. When the rumors that Craig wouldn’t be Bond began, Idris Elba was actually the first to be considered. But now that doesn’t seem likely. Elba believes he’s too old for the role while the original James Bond author, Ian Fleming, controversially said Elba was ‘too street’ to be Bond.
So what will happen with Bond? Sadly, no one really knows yet.
