The infamous Angelina Jolie attended the opening ceremony for her dramatic Cambodian film, ‘They Killed My Father’ on Saturday. The star has been traveling around Cambodia for the film and shared her excitement with King Norodom Sihamoni. Jolie entered the ceremony, located in the Siem Reap province in Cambodia, wearing a stunning but simple pink gown.
His highness presented Jolie with honours that she graciously accepted. Following Cambodian customs, the Hollywood actress bowed towards the monarch to show respect and gratitude. Presented with honours and a large boquet of flowers, Jolie had quite the memorable experience. Jolie was presented with Cambodian citizenship as well, for her exqisite efforts. The actress was also personally invited to show her film in the King’s royal residence with a selected audience personally chosen by King Norodom Sihamoni himself.

Surrounded by her children and the Cambodian public, Jolie enjoyed a night at the movies, very proud of her final product. The star accredits her inspiratioin for the film to her son, Maddox, who provided her the idea for the creation of the movie. Following the premiere of her film, Jolie plans to have multiple screenings in different areas of Cambodia before it is released gloabally. The film will eventually be released on the streaming network, Netflix, within these upcoming months.
The film itself focuses on the Cambodian genocide during 1975-79 that resulted in the deaths of over two million people. Jolie wanted to bring awareness to this long forgotten event in Cambodia history that nearly destoryed the country.
This film project has been one of Jolie’s first ventures since filing for divorce from Brad Pitt back in September. The actress seems to be moving forward through the hardship in the most positive ways possible. With dealing with divorce papers and facing custoday battles with her children and assets, Jolie seems to be coping well. Hopefully through all the darkness she is facing, there will be some light at the end of the tunnel for this well established actress.
