In August of 2016, Justin Bieber sent fans all over the world into a frenzy when he swore off the social media platform Instagram. Following a series of posts featuring then-rumored girlfriend Sofia Richie, Bieber and Richie were inundated with harassment in the form of comments and direct messages from Selena Gomez supporters. After the iconic couple’s breakup, fans of Team Jelena could not bear to support Justin’s new relationship.
As a result, the singer went silent, but not before he had a chance to rant about the situation. A few of the comments he made about the photo-sharing platform included, “Instagram is for the devil. I think hell is Instagram. I’m, like, 90 percent sure,” and “We get sent to hell… I’m stuck in the DMs. I’m trying to climb my way out and I can’t.”
However, after a six month hiatus, the star has silently returned to his page as if nothing happened. On the 4th of February, he Instagrammed a video of his Super Bowl advertisement for T Mobile, where he encourages fans to show their “unlimited moves.” The video already has millions of views and is flooded with comments of support from fans welcoming Bieber back with open arms. It is also worth noting that Bieber did not delete any of his posts with Richie, despite the amount of hate that they received. However, comments on the photos featuring her, as well as on other miscellaneous posts, have been either deleted or disabled.
