Oprah Winfrey, the woman who does it all and, let’s be frank, has it all. One thing she doesn’t have, children. On Thursday, the iconic woman figure revealed the reasons as to why she never had kids and why she’s completely fine with that.
Winfrey expressed her love for her 172 girls that are part of her Leadership Academy located in South Africa. She continued to describe how these girls view her as a mother figure in their lives and that feeling easily fills the children void in her life. Winfrey told Good Housekeeping U.K,
“When people were pressuring me to get married and have children, I knew I was not going to be a person that ever regretted not having them, because I feel like I am a mother to the world’s children. Love knows no boundaries. It doesn’t matter if a child came from your womb of if you found that person at age two, 10 or 20. If the love is real, the caring is pure and it comes from a good space, it works.”
As a teenager at age 14, Winfrey became pregnant due to being raped by her cousin. She eventually gave birth to a son, Canaan. Sadly, her son passed away a few weeks later in the hospital. This tragic event in her life triggered her decision to not have children in the future.
To compensate, Winfrey has focused on the positivity of her weight loss. The 63-year-old has worked very hard and her journey had led her to lose 42 pounds. Winfrey said, “Now I feel liberated! It’s the thing I have been looking for my whole life – to feel a sense of freedom. The taste of freedom? There is nothing better than that!”
