The political uproar does not stop at fashion’s door. The Council of Fashion Designers of America, or CFDA, announced that they will be teaming up with Planned Parenthood to spread awareness about the recent limitations on the organization.
The CFDA will be handing out pins saying that fashion stands with planned parenthood during New York Fashion Week in the hopes to share the importance of the cause. According to Harper’s Bazaar, over 40 designers are already standing up with the movement.
Not only will pins be handed out to everyone attending the shows, but each person will also receive an information card that explains what the pin stands for. In a statement given by Tracey Reese, a CFDA board member, she said, “By creating a visually engaging and fashionable pin, we help to create an organic social media movement promoting awareness and education.” A pink pin with bold lettering gives a hard-to-miss display.
What’s more is that NYFW is a globally covered event and is a great way to gain exposure for the foundation. Each photo taken and posted onto social media gives instant exposure. If that isn’t enough, Planned Parenthood also has the #IStandWithPP to make the political statement a viral message for all.
The next Supreme Court justice will rule on cases that strike at the very heart of who we are as a country — including challenges to Roe v. Wade that could strip women of the right to safe and legal abortion. Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, has a history of interfering with reproductive rights and health, including access to birth control. So if one does not know which trend to take away from the glamorized week, pick the one that stands up for human rights. Even the latest bodysuit doesn’t have that much power.
