In what’s being described as the new year’s first truly peaceful transition of power, the Academy has announced that this year’s Oscars presenters will include last year’s winners. This means that, not only did Leonardo DiCaprio finally win the prestigious award last year, but he will be able to bestow the honor on another lucky actor this year. The other presenters include Brie Larson, Mark Rylance and Alicia Vikander.
After four previous nominations in the category, DiCaprio finally snagged the Oscar for best actor for his work in The Revenant last year – an event that many considered to be long overdue. Brie Larson also received her first Academy Award last year for her role in Room. Rylance received the award for best supporting actor for Bridge of Spies, and Vikander topped off the list with best supporting actress for her role in The Danish Girl.
This will not be the first time DiCaprio is presenting an award this year, as he also already presented the Golden Globe for best actress in a drama. Larson is also no stranger to presenting awards – this year, she presented best actor prizes at both the Golden Globes and the SAG awards.
The 89th annual Academy Awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel in the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center. They will air live on the ABC network on February 26th at 7 p.m. EST, or 4 p.m. PST.
