It’s impossible to think of the name ‘Kim Kardashian’ without associating it with a few key terms: reality television, Kanye West, and – since October – robbery. All debates over whether or not she deserves her success or has had work done on her body all went silent on Monday, October 3rd when news reports came out saying she was held at gunpoint and robbed in Paris while attending Fashion Week.
Although she was – for the most part – physically unharmed, something changed that day. The social media guru was silent, despite the fact that the Internet is integral to her persona. She remained largely out of the public eye following the event, leading many to wonder if she would ever be the same again. It was only three months after the traumatic incident – on January 3rd – that Kardashian West posted on Instagram, captioning a photo of herself, her husband, and her children with the word “family.”
Since then, her robbery has been discussed by nearly every news outlet. The Hollywood Reporter kept an up-to-date account of all information being released about the event, from its initial announcement to her gradual re-entrance into the public eye. Vanity Fair analyzed how her January Instagram post signaled a new chapter in her life. Time took to speculating as to who the perpetrators were, guessing that they could have been related to the Pink Panthers, an international jewel thief ring. This list doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface – a Google News search of “Kim Kardashian Paris robbery” brings up almost half a million results in less than one second. However, what has been missing from this discussion is Kardashian West’s own voice, as she refused to speak out about the incident.
That is, until now. In a one-minute long sneak peek of an upcoming episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, she explains:
They asked for money, dragged me onto the hallway, on top of the stairs. That’s when I saw the gun, clear as day.
The clip alternates between personal interview scenes, and a tear-filled conversation with sisters Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian, in which she tells them she felt there was “no way out.”
