Karlie Kloss Talks Body Shaming

Lately it seems as though the fashion industry is changing when it comes to its body standards.  There have definitely been steps towards that direction with models like Ashley Graham, whose body positiveness has landed her magazine cover after magazine cover.  Of course, that doesn’t mean that the fashion industry has completely rid itself from body shaming.  Yet, when body shaming happens to supermodel Karlie Kloss, one can’t help but to be shocked.

During the Cannes Lion festival, Kloss sat on a panel with Hearst chief content officer Joanna Coles.  Coles and Kloss discussed the model’s Kode with Klossy camp, which helps girls become interested in computer science.  However, Coles also had Karlie Kloss discuss her experience in the fashion world, specifically her experience with body shaming.

“”I was called both too fat and too thin by a casting agent[s] on the same day.”

As a model who is about 6’1″ and also a former Victoria Secret Angel, the fact that Kloss had been a subject of body shaming is outstanding.  But this has not stopped Karlie from having an amazing career and feeling good about herself.  The model told everyone that at the end of the day she got over body shaming comments by focusing on her own health.

“I don’t want to please anyone but myself.”
