After 11 years and more than 11 billion video views, Anthony Padilla is leaving behind his successful YouTube channel Smosh which he formed with friend of 16 years Ian Hecox.
Over the years, Padilla and Hecox transformed Smosh into a digital empire. The online brand has 23 different shows and seven YouTube channels which have over 40 million subscribers combined.
Padilla and Hecox have also starred together in two films, “Smosh: The Movie” and YouTube Red’s “Ghostmates.”
Although Padilla has not stated what future projects he will be working on, he said, “As I begin this adventure, I am excited to return to a feeling that I felt many years ago: a rush of adrenaline following a new and exciting idea.”
In regard to Smosh’s future, co-founder Hecox says, “I’m really looking forward to taking Smosh to the next phase, and we can’t wait for people to see what we have coming up.”
Padilla posted a heartfelt goodbye to his 2.8 million followers on Instagram. He thanked his fans for their continued support throughout his time with Smosh.
“I’m so sad to see this chapter of my life coming to a close, but I will continue to support Ian and wish nothing but the best for him and the brand we created together,” Padilla said about his best friend. Hecox also expressed support for Padilla’s future endeavors. “Myself and everyone at Smosh are excited to see what he does next,” said Hecox.
