Netflix has been releasing many Netflix original shows and most of them have become extremely famous, such as Orange is the New Black, Stranger Things, House of Cards and a show that has been getting a lot of raid, 13 Reasons Why. This show was recently named the most top watched in Netflix history which makes it no surprise that they are getting a season 2, even though it’s based on one book.
13 Reasons Why is a novel by Jay Asher and revolves around a high school teen who commits suicide and leaves 13 tapes to her best friend and those who bullied and harassed her, explaining why she ended her life and telling her story.
Jay Asher wrote 13 Reasons Why back in 2007 and was picked up by actress and singer Selena Gomez who decided to produce the show. Gomez has spoken out against bullying and harrasment in the past so it was not a shock that she made this her next project.
Even though the show is only based on 13 reasons they still will be releasing a season 2, but have not said what the second season will be based on yet. We can only guess that they are picking up on a couple cliff hangers that they left on.
Many viewers have criticized the producers of the show for using the topic of suicide as a way to make money and giving bullied teens the idea that suicide is a way out. Critics are hoping that in the second season the producers will take into consideration that suicide is a sensitive topic and should focus on bringing more awareness about bullied and troubled teens. For now viewers are just going to have to wait and see what season 2 of 13 Reasons why will bring.
