The Manchester City Council has officially named Ariana Grande the first honorary citizen of Manchester. Grande is receiving this honor because of her work to help honor the victims of the Manchester bombing at Grande’s “Dangerous Woman” tour. This work included visiting hospitals of those hurt by the Manchester bombing, releasing benefit singles, having a benefit concert, and much more.
Before the vote if Grande would receive the first honorary citizen award, council leader of the Manchester City Council, Richard Leese said “she, as an artist, a performer, was determined that she would not perform again until she had returned to Manchester to perform,” he later said “In doing so, she brought comfort to thousands, she raised millions for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund and became the first patron of that fund. And that’s why I propose that Ariana Grande is made the first honorary citizen of the city of Manchester.”
Grande posted a screenshot on Instagram of the news that she is the first honorary citizen of Manchester and captioned the photo saying “I don’t know what to say. Words don’t suffice.
I’m moved and honored. My heart is very much still there. I love you. Thank you.”
