ABC is going to send us on a intergalactic, nostalgic trip for those of us who’ve grown up with The Jetsons. According to Variety, the network has ordered a live action Jetsons series that will be based on the original Hann-Barbera cartoon.

The series is said to be a “multi-cam sitcom set 100 years in the future,” that follows the lives of the Jetson family. Robert Zemeckis will serve as the executive producers alongside Jack Rapke. Gary Janetti – who has written and produced Family Guy and Will & Grace – will also work with the duo.

The original The Jetsons animated series aired on ABC from 1962-1963 as a primetime special alongside The Flintstones which took place during the prehistoric era. The series followed the lives of George, Jane, Judy, and Elroy Jetson along with their robot maid Rosie and their dog Astro.

The series took place in a futuristic, Space Age world filled with flying vehicles, holograms, aliens, and all sorts of highly tech equipment. After its first run of 24 episodes in the sixties, the series was later revived by Hanna-Barbera in 1985 with 41 new episodes. An animated movie “Jetsons: The Movie” was released in theatres in 1990. The last time the futuristic family was seen was in a direct-to-DVD release The Jetsons & WWE: Robo-WrestleMania!

There are currently no further details about the series, but it’s definitely a solid entry in ABCs family comedy lineup which includes Modern Family, Black-ish, The Goldbergs, and Fresh Off the Boat.
