Emily Blunt will be gracing the big screen this Christmas as the beloved Mary Poppins in Mary Poppins Returns, the sequel to the 1964 classic film.
Blunt will be joined by big name talents like Meryl Streep, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Angela Lansbury.
Dick Van Dyke, who appeared in the original film, will play a banker and actress Emily Mortimer will play an adult Jane Banks. Van Dyke described his time on set as “highest level of joy.”
During Disney’s D23 Legends event, the 34-year-old actress spoke to E! News and expressed how happy she was to try on the iconic Mary Poppins costume.
The film’s costume designer is Sandy Powell who has worked on films like Gangs of New York, The Aviator, and The Wolf of Wall Street.
“I love that Mary Poppins is vain and stylish and into herself…so it was enjoyable to sashay around in Sandy Powell’s creations,” said Blunt.
Mary Poppins was first played by Julie Andrews in 1964 and Blunt explained her desire to pay tribute to the actress while still bringing her own unique style to the role.
“I needed to try to pay homage to Julie Andrews but carve out a new space for myself. And we were very loyal to the books,” Blunt said.
Enjoy your Christmas by going to see Mary Poppins Returns which will be released on December 25, 2018.
