Nina Dobrev Explains Leaving ‘Vampire Diaries’

28 year old Nina Dobrev got her start in acting when she landed the lead role on CW Vampire Diaries. Dobrev was on the show for six seasons and didn’t sign for the seventh season, which caused a huge shock to many fans.

Dobrev admitted that the exit from the show was her decision. “That was the plan from get-go” she told Harper by Harpers BAZAAR. “If anything the fact that leaving terrified me and drove me even more.” Even though leaving a popular show isnt always good for an acting career, the actress still took the risk. ” I needed to feel that fear of ‘Oh my god, what if I never get a job again?” She explained. “That just made me want to work five times as hard to make sure that didn’t happen.”

Nina Dobrev also explained that you have to be “picky” when finding roles. “The things I want to do are different than the things that are expected of me. I dont wanna play a teenager anymore. I want to play adult roles and be challenged and work with great filmmakers and tell incredible stories, and that has meant being really picky.”

Since her exit from Vampire Diaries in 2015, she has landed a couple of guest roles and two films. Dobrev definitely has kept her goal of continuing to work towards adult roles.
