Looks like Riz Ahmed is coming from a galaxy far far away and landing in the Marvel Universe.
Hot off starring in the HBO critically acclaimed The Night Of, playing an ill-fated pilot in Rogue One: A Star Wars Movie, and guest starring on the last season of Girls, Ahmed is apparently in talks with Sony about joining the highly anticipated Venom with Tom Hardy, who is slated to play the villain himself.
While details of Ahmed’s role have not yet been revealed, Variety adds that sources say he will be playing a popular Marvel Comics character in the Ruben Fleischer directed movie. The Venom movie will not play a part in the Spider-Man universe, instead standing alone.
This means, sadly, Tom Holland will not be making a guest appearance. However, fans can still get excited about Ahmed and who he will ultimately play. Venom is scheduled to drop in theaters on Oct. 5, 2018, but hopefully teasers showing who Ahmed will portray come out much sooner. Here’s to hoping his character is some kind of badass.
Meanwhile, to get your daily dose of Riz Ahmed, you can check him out on Netflix’s The OA or in the upcoming The Sisters Brothers alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, Joaquin Phoenix, and John C. Reilly.
