Selena Gomez surprised her fans when she cancelled the rest of her Revival Tour last August to seek treatment for emotional health and exhaustion stemming from her battle with lupus. Now, after making her come-back over the past few months, Gomez opens up about her time in treatment, and how getting away from it all is just what she needed.
In her refreshingly honest interview for InStyle’s September issue, Gomez tells Laura Brown all about unplugging in the country-side, not doing her hair, and taking part in equine therapy.
“I had no phone, nothing, and I was scared. But it was amazing, and I learned a lot,” she reveals in the interview about her 90 days in treatment. Being disconnected from her life as a celebrity was crucial for her to heal.
Now while she notes that she is in a “really, really healthy place,” and extremely happy with her boyfriend, The Weeknd, Gomez still recognizes and struggles with the intense scrutiny that being the most followed person on Instagram *ahem 124 million followers* entails.
“You have ugly people trying to get negative things from you, and the energy makes you feel bad about yourself,” she says. “It’s very hard to find out who you are during all that mess and pressure.”
With two addictive new songs out, her beautiful Coach campaign, her first American Vogue cover, and producing the successful Thirteen Reasons Why on Netflix, it’s safe to say Gomez is figuring out the right balance.
