Star Wars fans may just get another spin-off movie!
Film director and Oscar nominee Stephen Daldry is working toward making an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off film a reality. Although there is no script, Daldry will work closely with Lucasfilm on development and writing if the film gets picked up.
The movie will join several other Star Wars spin-offs including Rogue One and the upcoming Han Solo film which will premiere on May 25, 2018. The film will star Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca.
Ewan McGregor, who portrayed Obi-Wan in the Star Wars prequel films, expressed his interest in working on a stand-alone Obi-Wan Kenobi film to Business Insider.
“I’ve been very open to say I’d be happy to do it, if they want to do it.”
In an interview with CinemaBlend, McGregor stated that he is at the perfect age to play Obi-Wan. “I’ve always thought there was a story to tell between my last one and Alec Guinness’ first one. It would be fun to film that story now I’m older. I’d be the right age. I’m 45. Alec Guinness was what, sixty? I could do two of them.”
Actor Alec Guinness was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Ob-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Episode IV—A New Hope.
While fans wait for future Star Wars spin-offs, they can enjoy Star Wars: The Last Jedi which is set to premiere on December 15, 2017.
