Movie fans will finally get the chance to visit District 12 and be part of the Hunger Games!
On Tuesday, Lionsgate Entertainment Company announced that South Korea will be home to its first movie theme park. The new Lionsgate Movie World will feature several of Lionsgate’s hit and upcoming films.
Lionsgate is joining the success of other film studios that have created their own movie theme parks. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has been a huge hit at Universal Studios in Florida and California. In 2019, Disney is set to open Star Wars: Galazy’s Edge at its Disneyland and Disney World parks. 20th Century Fox has also announced that it will be opening international theme parks dedicated to Titanic and the Planet of the Apes franchise.
Lionsgate theme park will open on South Korea’s Jeju Island at the luxury resort Jeju Shinhwa World. Visitors will be able to travel through different lands or “zones” that are based on different Lionsgate films. Theme park fans will have the chance to explore the Twilight, Now You See Me, and the upcoming Robin Hood zones.
According to a press release statement, “Visitors can experience actual movie scenes through state-of-the-art rides, attractions and 4D Intellectual Property (IP) reproduced streets and towns. Each zone will also feature themed restaurants, cafes, souvenir shops and entertainment performances.”
Construction on Lionsgate Movie World will begin next year and is planned to open sometime in 2019.
