Disney fans may finally receive a third installment of The Princess Diaries film series!
Sixteen years ago, Anne Hathaway took on the role of Princess Mia Thermopolis in Disney’s The Princess Diaries. Now, there is a possibility that Hathaway will once again play the princess, who we last saw being crowned Queen of Genovia, alongside her on-screen grandmother Julie Andrews.
Meg Cabot, whose books the films are based on, shared with Entertainment Weekly that if a third film were to be made, it would be a tribute to director Garry Marshall who passed away last summer.
However, Cabot was not able to share all the details. “I would love to sit and talk about [it], but I can’t. I’m not allowed. But it’s really more following the movie than the books,” said Cabot.
Mandy Moore, who starred in the first movie, told Cosmopolitan that she would definitely be interested in taking part of a third film.”If I’m going to be involved, I would be down for a cameo—maybe she could make amends with Mia and apologize for being a bully when she was younger.”
In an interview with BuzzFeed, Julie Andrews stated that she would be happy to reprise her role. “I think we might do it in honor of [Marshall]. Annie had an idea that she wanted to pursue about it, and I’m all for it, so if she’d like to…”
