Rihanna has taken over the beauty and fashion world over the past two weeks, continuing to make headlines with her Fenty x Puma ready-to-wear line that showcased the runway at NYFW, along with the launch of her new makeup line, Fenty Beauty.
Fenty’s increasing popularity had many people questioning what inspired Rihanna to name her brand Fenty, which left Twitter shocked as they learned Fenty is the singer’s actual last name. For the record, Rihanna is her stage/middle name. Her full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty.
The singer spoke about her name in a 2011 interview with Rolling Stone and had this to say:
I get kind of numb to hearing Rihanna, Rihanna, Rihanna. When I hear Robyn, I pay attention. Robyn is the brick to my foundation. It’s something I hold on to. It’s everything I grew up with, my childhood, Barbados, people close to me. Everything that’s familiar. People know Rihanna from my music. But if this were to all go away tomorrow, I would always look at myself as Robyn.
Fenty is Rihanna's last name… all this time i thought it was a slipper brand that collaborated with her hahaha i feel so uncultured

However, the best call out came from the Rihanna herself when she posted a meme on Instagram responding to those wondering about the inspiration behind beauty brand’s name.
The singer’s first single “Pon de Replay” dropped in 2005 and you wouldn’t think it would take 12 years to learn the last name of a star as popular as Rihanna herself.
