Kevin Spacey’s publicist has released a statement saying that the actor will be seeking treatment and evaluation, after multiple sexual assault accusations.
“Kevin Spacey is taking the time necessary to seek evaluation and treatment,” the statement reads. “No other information is available at this time.”
Anthony Rapp, known for his roles in Dazed and Confused and Rent, reported earlier this week that a 26-year-old Spacey had accosted him in 1986, when Rapp was only 14 years old. According to a Buzzfeed account of the situation, Rapp attended a party at Spacey’s apartment when the two were both working on Broadway. Rapp told Buzzfeed that after watching television alone in Spacey’s apartment, after becoming bored at the party, Spacey entered the room and threw Rapp on top of the bed. “I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually,” Rapp said of the assault.
Filmmaker Tony Montana, in an interview with Radar Online, said that Spacey once “grabbed his whole package.” Many other accusations have come out from young men who performed at London’s Old Vic theater at the same time that Spacey served as artistic director, including an account from actor Roberto Cavazos. In a Facebook post, Cavazos stated, “It seems the only requirement was to be a male under the age of 30 for Mr. Spacey to feel free to touch us.”
Netflix announced on October 31st that production of Spacey’s show, House of Cards, was to be immediately suspended, with the sixth season being the final installment of the series.
It is unclear as of now what sort of treatment the actor will be seeking.
