Zayn Malik, the solo musician and boyfriend of supermodel Gigi Hadid is making his fashion design debut in a collaboration with Versus Versace. Malik has chosen Gigi’s sister Bella to model in the campaign.
Versus has always been Versace’s rebellious and edgy little-sister line. Donatella herself associates the brand with music, “Everyone from the Foo Fighters to Lenny Kravitz has played at the shows, and it is all about rebellion,” Donatella told the New York Times. “For me, Zayn was the perfect fit.”
While Zayn could have chosen his supermodel girlfriend, her sister seemed like a better fit. Bella, whose day-to-day style is more avant-garde and and experimental than her sister’s, looks right at home in the collection’s lace-up jeans, bomber jackets, and logo’ed crop tops.
Malik and Versace are both extremely excited for the collection to launch and reach Malik’s large social media following.
“I think Versus has always been a very cool brand and is a great brand for me and for people in my generation,” Malik told the Times. “I’ve always wanted to design clothes and there’s no brand I’d rather design for than Versus.”
“I wanted Zayn because he can help me talk to his followers,” Versace said. “I want to listen to their language. I want to learn more about them, what they think and what they like. They are a new generation that without working with someone like Zayn, I will never reach.”
Zayn X Versus will be available in London this Thursday. On June 28, the line will hit New York City with a special launch at the Versus store in Soho.
