Prabal Gurung is known for creating clean silhouettes with feminine fabrics, however, his reputation is not just influenced by what he designs, but who he designs it for. He has made a name for himself designing a Target collaboration and offering a wide range of sizes in his high-end line, and most recently, creating a collection for the plus size retailer, Lane Bryant.
Gurung told Fashionista that he received negative responses when he announced the collaboration, saying that one person asked why he was designing for “fat people.” He was appalled that a majority of the industry is still so unaccepting of dressing plus-sized women.
“Our industry is very, very slow at change, and fearful, we are operated by fear; there are a handful of people who operate with absolute courage and guts, but the majority of us, we don’t,” he said.
That said, Twitter had nothing but positive things to say about the collection.
I’m a huge fan of great style for EVERY body. That’s why I love with the new Prabal Gurung x Lane Bryant collection. https://t.co/VPxB4JCK6R

Consumers are more than pleased with the collection. The line contains wrap dresses, figure-flattering skirts, and chic moto jackets, and is currently available at Lane Bryant stores and online.
“The majority of American women haven’t had a voice, haven’t felt like they belong in our world, and I wanted to be sure that they do,” said Gurung.
