ABC: ‘The Little Mermaid Live!’ Will Not Premiere This Fall

The Little Mermaid Live!  will no longer be part of the live musical lineup this fall.

ABC announced in May that they would be transforming Disney’s beloved classic The Little Mermaid into a live musical performance. Fellow television networks NBC and FOX also set plans in motion to create their own musical productions with NBC releasing Bye, Bye Birdie and Jesus Christ Superstar and FOX releasing A Christmas Story and Rent.

The ABC musical was set to premiere on October 3, but on Thursday, ABC announced that they wil be postponing the TV production until next year.

“We love the idea of doing a live musical and want to make it wonderful. The project is so unique that we are making best efforts to do it next year and want to give it all the attention it deserves.”

Although Disney fans won’t be seeing the live show until next year, it might be worth the wait. The Little Mermaid Live! promises to be an amazing experience with a combination of live action and animation, along with the Oscar winning music from the 1989 film.

An official premiere date has not been set. The cast has yet to be announced, but there’s no doubt ABC will find the best talents to play the lovely Ariel and the conniving Ursula.
