On Oct. 1, a gunman opened fire at a concert in Las Vegas killing 50 people and injuring over 400, making this the worst mass shooting in history on American soil.

The attack took place at the outdoor Route 91 Harvest Festival when country singer Jason Aldean was rushed off the stage after the gunman opened fire at the 22,000 attendees from his hotel room on the 32 floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort. A witness and attendee of the festival told NBC what happened:

We heard what sounded like firecrackers going off. Then all of a sudden we heard what sounded like a machine gun. People started screaming that they were hit. When we started running out, there were probably a couple of hundred people on the ground.

The suspect was later identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Celebrities took to social media to express their concern and support for the victims and families affected by the deadly shooting.
