Ryan Murphy will examine the murder of Italian fashion designer and legend Gianni Versace in the second installment of American Crime Story and the trailer and release date have finally been announced.
Gianni Versace (played by Edgar Ramirez) was shot in front of his Miami home in 1997 by a man named Andrew Cunanan (played by Darren Criss) who killed four people prior to killing Versace and committed suicide eight days later.
Nobody knows exactly why Cunanan murdered Versace, but the theory in the upcoming series is that Cunanan envied Gianni’s fortune and fame and coveted the luxury lifestyle.
“This world has wasted me, and yet this world also made you, Mr. Versace, into a star,” Criss as Cunanan says in the trailer. “You’re not better than me. We’re the same. The only difference is that you got lucky.”
Ricky Martin will be starring in the series as well playing Gianni’s partner, Antonio D’Amico.
“I will not allow that man, that nobody, to kill my brother twice,” says Donatella Versace in the trailer who is portrayed by Penelope Cruz.
The series will premiere on Jan. 17, 2018.
